Grand Sweden Cruise

Premium cruise on the Göta Canal

The six-day Grand Sweden Cruise on the Göta Canal is our absolute premium cruise and a particular favorite of our international guests looking for an unforgettable way of experiencing the Swedish nature and culture. M/S Diana or M/S Wilhelm Tham takes you from Gothenburg to Stockholm or the other way around, Sweden’s two largest cities and unmissable tourist destinations in their own right.

We make nine stops over the course of our cruise to explore the stunning surroundings and sights along the route with guided excursions or sightseeing on your own; the choice is entirely up to you. And of course, full board with excellent breakfast, lunch, and dinner on board the ship is included.

Experience the beauty of the Göta Canal in six days

Let the cruise aboard the M/S Diana or M/S Wilhelm Tham transport you back to the relaxed and leisurely way of travelling of the late 19th century when the journey was as important as the destination. And to make sure that you don’t miss anything, our ship is moored every night during the Grand Sweden Cruise to allow you to enjoy the entire route in daylight.
During these stops, you also have the opportunity to join guided tours to such attractions as Läckö Castle, Vadstena Castle, and Birka, the Viking City, to learn more about Sweden and its history. Of course, you may also go on excursions to explore your surroundings on your own, if you so prefer.

The canal’s picturesque locks

On the Grand Sweden Cruise we pass many through various large and small historical lock systems with a total of 66 unique locks. This includes several special gems: in Forsvik, we travel through the canal's oldest lock while the historical lock in Borensberg is still operated by hand to this very day. We even take you through the famous lock system at Berg which consists of a total of 15 locks, including the Carl Johan lock staircase with its seven connected locks on lake Roxen – the longest lock staircase on the entire canal.

M/S Diana

The M/S Diana is the youngest of the company’s ships, built at the Finnboda shipyard outside Stockholm and launched in 1931. There are 25 cabins on three decks. The dining room and lounge are found on the shelter deck and the bridge deck offers a covered aft deck with a perfect view.

M/S Wilhelm Tham

M/S Wilhelm Tham was built at Motala Werkstad and was launched in 1912. She was listed in 2004 by the National Maritime Museums, considering her historically important. This distinction naturally makes us quite proud as it proves our efforts to preserve the ship have succeeded.
